July 2025 Debut of the Month

Will loves his dog, Whiskers, more than anything, so when a house move means Whiskers has to go to live with Will’s grandma, Will is distraught not to see his best friend every day. Weekend visits just aren’t enough. But on one of these visits Will is transported to a magical world where Whiskers has become a wolf. And even better – they can talk to each other! The pair soon discover that as magical as WolfWorld is, it is also full of danger.

An exciting adventure story full of great characters and an expertly developed magical realm. Will’s relationship with Whiskers is beautifully portrayed and will surely be familiar to many young pet-owning readers. Alongside this twosome is a fantastic cast of other characters, including a curiously surly human girl and warring wolf packs – some friendly, some definitely not so!

Magical WolfWorld is a delight to visit and is expertly brought to life by Adam Beer’s skillful illustrations. The way in which he perfectly captures the love between boy and dog in seemingly simple monochrome drawings is incredible. WolfWorld becomes almost a character itself; the wild and storm ravaged landscape beneath a moonlit, purple sky, offers excitement and potential peril with every page turn.

A must read for all dog-lovers and lovers of magical realism. Will Wolfheart is an enchanting story with a powerful message about love and belonging.

Will and his dog/wolf Whisker have to help save Maple Pack. This is a fun story especially for anyone who has a pet dog or wants one!

This book was a bit young for me if you go by the reader age, but I still really enjoyed it. I have pet dogs and I wish they could talk to me the way Whisker talks to Will.
The two of them have a brilliant adventure, making new friends along the way, both human and wolf.
I liked the idea of the three moons converging to make an eye and the magic it created.... Read Full Review

As the story went on, though, we enjoyed it more and would encourage readers to stick with it.

We shared Will Wolfheart together as a mum (and teacher) with two children aged 8 and 12. The book has an appealing storyline that will attract children who love their pets. The idea of a canine best friend turning into a talking wolf and leading you into a magical land is lots of fun. At the start, the story moves quite quickly, with a lot of dialogue, which made it hard to connect with the characters straight away. For my younger reader, this meant he didn’t get drawn in very quickly, while for my older reader the plot felt a little on the young side. That said, as the story went on, we began to connect more with the characters, and the adventure drew us in.... Read Full Review
