True Colours Synopsis

Nothing is black and white for Bertie Allbright, but can the discovery of a rare gift save his colourful world from being plunged into darkness?

Light or dark? Freak or normal? Run or fight? The answers are not obsidian or alabaster for a twelve year old living in an explosion of colour. Bullied for being different, Bertie Allbright discovers he has the ability to see auras and must fight the Hertzers and Ampires who suck aural energy from those he loves. Journeying north with (slow cooked) Stu and Jasper the dog he searches for mysterious seer Solas and a powerful crystal, hoping to save his mother and sister.

The seer needs his crystal to prepare for battle with Jett Black and the Inspectrum, who are planning to harvest the brightest aura of each colour of the spectrum to create a light so bright it can pierce the atmosphere and plunge the world into darkness. Bertie secretly searches for his own crystal in the dangerous caves before returning with two broken pieces to help his loved ones.

Doctor Greene uses a small piece of the newly discovered crystal to begin healing Bertie’s mother but realises the evil Inspectrum has taken the larger piece. Bertie has inadvertently placed two of his friends in grave danger by revealing that they have the strongest auras he’s seen. With strong feelings for both the boy and the girl, Bertie must save them.

The Ampires are already sucking the friends’ energy for Jett Black to absorb and when Doctor Greene is captured too, hapless Stu is Bertie’s only hope. They fight courageously but with no crystal have little chance of defeating Black. Just as the thrilling battle seems lost, Solas and his friends arrive. The defeated Hertzers, Ampires and Inspectrum are taken to be imprisoned in the crystal caves. It seems that everyone has been saved. Everyone except Bertie.

Discovering that Bertie has a rare rainbow aura, Black begins to absorb each colour to gain the last bit of power he needs, but black can only exist in the complete absorption of the spectrum. Will everything be all bright in the end?
