The Snow Dragon

Beautiful and engaging. A modern fairy tale!

Milo: Someone is mean to Phoebe and the magic Snow Dragon looks after her and takes her on an adventure. I didn't like the mean dog but I really loved the Snow Dragon. He is made from snow and is very kind. All the pictures were so lovely and snowy to look at. All my friends would like this book.

Aidan: A very beautiful book with pretty and interesting pictures. I really enjoyed this book. My favourite character was the Snow Dragon. I've never seen anything so snowy before!

Sarah (Mum): Both boys really enjoyed this. Aidan (7) was able to read alone, Milo loved looking at the pictures and tracing the Snow as I read to him. A very engaging story with a lovely ending. A modern fairy tale!

Not only is 'The Snow Dragon' a heart-warming and beautiful book, it is accompanied with equally gorgeous illustrations that make you linger that bit more whilst reading this story.

In our opinion, The Snow Dragon should sit amongst other classic Christmas stories like The Snowman. The little girl in the orphanage, Phoebe has the same determination and courage as Roald Dahl's Matilda and Sophie from the BFG. She's the only child left in the terrible orphanage managed by an even terrible woman and her dog. As the title of the book suggests in enters a Snow Dragon and the start of Phoebe's magical adventure begins.

My daughters loved reading this book with its magical illustrations and laughed at Phoebe's grammar answers. A lovely book to read with loved ones.

An enchanting tale about love, magic and adventure, destined to become a children's classic.

Take to the snow-filled, starry sky with Phoebe, her adorable little sausage dog Herb and a magical snow dragon, in this enchanting tale about love, magic and adventure, which has fittingly been compared to Raymond Briggs' The Snowman.

Rich in detail and imagination, Abi Elphinstone’s writing makes for an unmissable treat, and her unique ability to offer otherworldly escapism through this wonderful and wintery adventure is something I’ll never tire off. Accompanied with graceful and whimsical illustrations by the talented Fiona Woodcock, and presented in a gorgeous hardback edition, I have no doubt that The Snow Dragon is destined to become a children’s classic.

Longer in length than a typical picture book, making this ideal for both young and newly independent readers (5+), The Snow Dragon is a perfect book to cosy up with on a magical, chilly Christmas night.

A beautiful children's picture book, perfect for a Christmas bedtime story.

A beautiful children's picture book, perfect for a Christmas bedtime story.

In a gloomy orphanage, everyone except Phoebe has had their Miracle Day (the day a family comes to take them away for a happy new life). It's Christmas Eve, but Christmas and daydreaming and all things nice are banned in the orphanage and Christmas is cancelled.

For Phoebe and her sausage dog called Herb, the adventure starts that night when a Snow Dragon coes to whisk them away on an adventure.

The illustrations in this book are beautiful and I can really see the reason why comparisons have been made to The Snowman. It is a lovely, emotional story about the magic of Christmas which is perfect for a Christmas bedtime story.
