I really enjoyed this book, the way it hooks you in and almost seems alive is brilliant! I’d really recommend it to people who like books by Anna James (Pages &Co.) and A.F Steadman (Skandar and the unicorn thief). Overall a brilliant book, really recommended!

The story follows the journey of two characters called Mal and Cristopher, who embark on a perilous journey to save the glimourie, which is at the centre of a maze and the only person who knows its path is the Immortal, so Cristopher and Mal set sail. They ask for advice from Sphinxes on how to save the glimourie whilst running from a man who Is a murderer, together, they meet new friends called Nighthand and Ratwin; the navigator, and they all work as a team despite challenges, until the glimourie is saved. But little do they know the Immortal is part of this dynamic team. Who could it be? You will have to read it to find out!

This author created a wonderfully detailed world that my imagination is swimming between reality and the world she has created. It provides vivid imagery making you feel like you’re in a whole other world, it’s so magical!
Christopher has to leave home and go to live with some relatives. They tell him he should never climb to the top of the mountain, so of course he does, and all sorts of magical creature chaos is the result. A 5 star read!

A horde of magical creatures rush out of nowhere and a girl called Mal appears out of a nearby lake, claiming she is from a chain of magical islands called The Archipelago, which no average human can reach.
Mysterious forces keep attacking The Archipelago and it's people and Christopher and his friends must stop them.
I loves the characters, story line and excitement of this book. I can't wait to read the next one.

The Impossible Creatures series by Katherine Rundell was a real page-turner! I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. In the first book, a boy called Christopher finds a magical world where he meets a girl called Mal. They are being chased by a killer! This series is about how two unlikely heroes save this magical land - called The Archipelago - from becoming destroyed forever. With the help of mythical creatures, such as griffins, centaurs, chimeras, longmas and ratatoskas, they embark on an incredible adventure.
I loved learning about all the different animals and there was a 'Guardian's Beastiary' at the start of the book which helped me find out about them. I loved going back to it whenever I met a new animal in the series. The illustrations show so much detail and bought the creatures alive! Almost every chapter had a cliffhanger and you won't believe the endings! You simply have to read these books.
A sense of adventure!
I loved the unknown feel of it and the imagination put into it. I also liked the dragons and other mythical creatures. I did think that some of the chapters could have been longer. I liked the island too.
