Geomancer: The Ship of Strays

In the gripping conclusion to the Geomancer trilogy, Ysolda and her companions board a ship, called 'The Ship of Strays', which definitely doesn't have any mice...as the crew had adopted A LOT of stray cats!

In the gripping conclusion to the Geomancer trilogy, Ysolda and her companions board a ship, called 'The Ship of Strays', which definitely doesn't have any mice...as the crew had adopted A LOT of stray cats!

Bound for Kriti, the island where the Hell Gate resides, Ysolda, her loyal Sea Hawk, Nara, and Eira, a rebel princess, join the crew.

Ysolda plants the Heart Seed in her palm and gains the power to possess animals and call creatures from the deep.

I think this book is for adventurous readers, with brave characters so lifelike you wouldn't be surprised to bump into them on the street. The Wolf Queen (the villain of the story) is a complex character and is not as evil as she may seem...

The book has some slow parts, but don't worry, you'll be so immersed in the beautiful, descriptive text, that you won't notice.

5 stars!!

Action packed, adventure filled, full of thrills; like an orchestra this book conducted cresendos and diminuendos - creating a pattern as intricate as a spiders web.

This was the perfect culmination to the wonderfully thrilling and action-packed Geomancer trilogy - keeping me gripped until the end, I could never guess what was coming next. The Ship of Strays was the ideal ending to this series and I loved how new characters were being introduced all the time. Now reunited with Eira, Ysolda is ready for anything but will the boundaries of jealousy transcend the bonds of friendship?

This book took me on a journey aboard a stolen pirate ship where I looked upon a grove of golden lemons with rejuvenated senses, scanned the mysterious orrey excitedly with its indecipherable language to see the weather unfold and watched arguments ricocheting around the room and barbs being hurled - stopping and starting as unpredictable as tides.

The plot writhed and twisted like an endless sea serpent and every chapter left you hungry for what would happen next and how the plot will contort.

I loved how every character was unique and each appealed to me in their own way: Aethel is kind and curious while Saffiyah is gentle warm. Eira ,on the other hand, is full of stronghearted determination - ready to face anything but worried at the same time. Nara the sea hawk was a really fun character and I loved her constant grumbling about being at sea even though she is a sea hawk. Ysolda, the main protagonist, was strong yet scared. Constantly worried about what she is becoming, how she will stop the happenings - mysterious occurrences that have killed thousands - and how to stop their rivals.

Action packed, adventure filled, full of thrills; like an orchestra this book conducted cresendos and diminuendos - creating a pattern as intricate as a spiders web. I would recommend it to 10-14 year olds who love a fantasy adventure.
