Find out moreSuzy Senior has worked in publishing since she was old enough to be let loose in a company car. She had a fabulous time visiting bookshops across Scotland and the North of England, until she had two lovely children and had to calm down a little. In her spare time she likes to write books for children, but usually has to clean out the guinea pigs instead. She was shortlisted in the National Literacy Trust and Bloomsbury Children's Book Poetry Prize 2015.
February 2022 Book of the Month | Everyone loves a good pants story, especially those of us who are under the age of seven, and this is a great one. Octopants’ friend Pufferfish has lost his favourite pair of pants, the pirate ones. The friends set off to find them with Turtle too and end up at – ulp! – the wreck! What a jolly surprise to find it’s full of friendly pirates, not to mention the missing undies (and you’ll never guess exactly where they are). Like the first in this series, the story is full of fun and silliness, though it also sneaks in a gentle message about friendship and not judging by appearances. With a bouncy rhyming text, it’s great to read aloud and the pictures are pant-tastic too.
You can’t go wrong with a book for children about pants and this one is particularly satisfying and giggle-inducing. The poor octopus narrator of the story has a problem – he doesn’t have any underpants, ‘there’s nothing on below’. None of the shops he visits seem to cater for an octopus after pants, it seems he has just too many legs. His attempts at online shopping are a failure too – a delightfully literal imagining of ‘online’! At last though the staff of the Under-Sea Emporium come to his aid with a helpful and creative suggestion. Delightfully silly, and the story is told in deft rhyme that make it great fun to read aloud. Claire Powell’s vibrant illustrations are full of extra jokes and details too.

Get into the Spirit of Christmas! Return to the animals from The Tales From Christmas Wood and join in with their adventures with this fun activity book with stickers. Includes simple puzzles and games, colouring and sticker fun. There is even a recipe for gingerbread! Perfect for keeping little ones busy in the run up to Christmas, just like these furry friends.
This illustrated storybook contains five stories about the animals of Christmas Wood and is just right for reading at bedtime or in a cosy corner. The animals of the wood are all getting ready for Christmas in their different ways, Tiny Mouse is baking ginger biscuits, Rosie Rabbit is trying to make Christmas cards, and Badger is looking to make new friends. There’s a gentle resolution to each of the stories and the animals are all brought together at the end of the book, when they celebrate Christmas in front of the nativity scene. Warm and reassuring with a cast of very cuddly little characters, it shows how Christmas is always best shared with friends and family. ~ Andrea Reece
