Stephen Axelsen works as a full-time freelance illustrator for many children's publishers and also for the School Magazine. His bibliography is large and varied, beginning with the Blinky Bill books he illustrated some time ago. He is well known for books such as Eucalyptus Christmas, I Findem P.I., Red Hot Jokes for Kool Kids and his illustrations for the Crazy Tales series - Rodney's Runaway Nose (with Richard Tulloch), Quentin's Lunch (with Duncan Ball), The Mad Murkin's Holiday (with Bob Ryan) Cocky Colin (with Richard Tulloch) and Terrible Troy (with Max Fatchen). Stephen’s most recent book is the wonderfully whimsical Piccolo & Anabelle 2: The Disastrous Party.
A charming comedy about orphan Piccolo Grande and how he copes with the strange and rather crazy guardian angel who comes to take charge of him. With her wild red hair and unpredictable behaviour – including getting stuck in a tree when she tries out her flying and needing rescuing from the police station when she fails to pay for her shopping - Annabelle is something of a liability. But it’s certainly a lot more fun than living alone. Knockabout humour with lots of action told in short chapters. (8+)
