30 Kids Books about Changing Families, Separation and Divorce

Families are always changing and adapting but a separation or divorce can be an especially sad, stressful and very confusing time, particularly for children.

Children often feel like their world is being turned upside down and it can be incredibly stressful witnessing the change, experiencing the breakdown of the family unit and worrying about what happens next.

Books can help us all navigate our way through the good times and the bad and especially in circumstances such as these where it can be difficult to open up. The right book can offer support during these times,  provide a focal point for discussion and encourage children to open up about their feelings.

Here are a selection of titles that have been written around the theme of changing families, and particularly separation or divorce. It's a real selection of fantastic fiction that will help children to understand that not every family looks the same and that change can be positive.
