Celebrate 35 years of classic Little Princess potty training picture book!

A Julia Eccleshare Pick of the Month January 2021

Global best-selling author/ illustrator Tony Ross’s I Want My Potty! celebrates its 35th anniversary this year with a new edition of a classic title. Launching the now much-loved Little Princess series, the hugely enjoyable I Want My Potty! is the perfect introduction to the sometimes tricky subject of toilet training. When the very determined eponymous heroine decides that ““Nappies are YUUECH! There must be sometime better” the Royal household set about providing a number of suitable potties. The Little Princess has strong and not always favourable views about the Royal potty but gradually she gets the hang of it! Timeless fun for all toddlers and their parents.

Other Info

Speaking of the very familiar inspiration behind Little Princess, Tony Ross has said,   “Cleanliness was secondary to enjoyment of life for my daughter, and for Little Princess. When she was born, my little daughter Alex was Little Princess. She behaved like her, even looked like her, although she hates to be reminded of that, now she is in her forties. So, I was simply drawing what I knew, and loved.”

In 2020 Tony Ross’ creation helped children and families through the COVID19 pandemic, in I Don’t Want to Wash My Hands, first published in 2001, Little Princess learns all about the hidden, invisible nasties that can cause illnesses that live on our hands, and how the simple act of washing those hands removes them; there couldn’t be a more prescient message!

On the increased demand for his book, Tony Ross has said, “When I first wrote the story it was about cleanliness at meal times, never in a million years did I think we’d be in the public health crisis we are in and that people would be reading the book in this way! I just hope that it can help, and that all the little princesses and princes out there learn to wash their hands!”
