An international best-seller, translated into 25 languages Often human scientists try and solve a problem or invent a new tool and they realise that animals have already invented it for them. In this book you will meet the animal inventors who have shared their super inventing powers to make amazing things for humans.
Commenting on why she writes children’s books Christiane Dorion, author of Invented by Animals, said: “As a child, I loved being in nature and was always interested in how things work. Books helped me to understand the world around me and made me even more curious. Books can be fun, informative and inspiring. They can change you and you can change the world. Books open your mind to new worlds and adventures. Today there is such a huge variety of fantastic books – fiction and non-fiction. My passion is to write about the wonderful planet we live on. I love writing books that you don’t necessarily have to read from beginning to end in one go. It’s nice to be able to dip in and out, look at the pictures and go for the bits of text that you find interesting.”
Gosia Herba, illustrator of Invented by Animals, said: “I've been a bookworm since I was a child. I believe that books helped me make my dreams come true. Thanks to them, I discovered art and eventually decided to become an illustrator. Books bring not only knowledge but also lots of fun, adventures and inspiration. Reading makes our lives fuller and happier! I am delighted! Thank you! It gives me faith in the purpose of my work. Drawing children books fulfils my life. When creating books, I'm always accompanied by the thought that my work will become part of another person's life. That's why I always try to develop friendly, inclusive worlds where every reader, young and old, will find a place for himself. I'm glad to see the effort appreciated.”
We have invented ways of solving problems, making unbelievable materials, ways of getting around and working out how to survive on our own for millions of years. Sometimes when a human inventor gets stuck, they come to the animal kingdom to see if we can help them out.
In this book you will meet the creme de la creme of animal innovators who have created or are in the process of inventing things that people use every day. Meet the shark who invented a pair of swimming shorts so fast, they were banned from the Olympic games. And meet the snail who has invented a house that stays cool inside even in the desert.

"I was born in a beautiful part of the world, Quebec City, Canada. From a very young age, I was passionate about the environment and writing books for children has always been my dream. I studied geography at university and then completed a Masters Degree in Education. For four years, I lectured at Laval University, working with primary schools and introducing teacher trainees to geography and environmental issues. In 1987, I obtained a scholarship to carry out a PhD in environmental education in the UK and England became my new home. When I completed my PhD, the National Curriculum was being ...More About Christiane Dorion
