'Toby and the Silver Blood Witches' is an exciting adventure story which is sure to captivate young readers. Set in the modern world, children will recognise many elements that run through the story - bullying, persecution, friendship, computer games, football, single parent family, ME and young carers.
But this story also incorporates a fantasy world of witches and it is in this dual world that Toby has his adventures - helping (and being helped by) the witches. A brilliant book that simultaneously deals with the complex area of young carers and the feelings of being overwhelmed, anger, guilt, being trapped and with the effects of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.
The ending where both Toby and his mother accept help from others (including the witches) is very powerful. The fact pages (and contact details) about ME and Young Carers are useful and important additions.
