"A gripping story for children who have started free-reading and want a fun and exciting book"
The 2nd book in the Christie and Agatha Detective Agency Series.
Again, with the support and friendship of Arthur Conan Doyle, his protégés, the two child detectives, head off on another adventure. This time, Agatha and Christie join their mother, Conan Doyle, and Auguste on a trip to Scotland via the Flying Scotsman to witness The Ford Model T drive to the summit of Ben Nevis. (This was an actual event that was successfully accomplished in 1911) As to be expected, the trip does not go without excitement.
First the characters are introduced - Mr Henry Alexander Jr, the son of Henry Alexander, the owner of the first Scottish Ford Motor car dealership, Eustace Fleming, an irritating boy they meet on the journey north, who clearly has a chip on his shoulder and Mr Pinnock, the local railway mogul with the somewhat menacing sneer. Everyone has their own reason for wanting the mission to succeed or fail, but it up to the dynamic duo to uncover the saboteur. Who is disabling the car and making it not road worthy?
The plot is cleverly written so the reader thinks they know the outcome and the culprit, but as with other books in this series, there is always a clever development or twist, which makes the book far more gripping.
The chapter length, vocabulary and lovely illustrations by Roberta Tedeschi make it a very suitable book for children who have started free-reading and want a fun and exciting book. The clever twosome with their observations, note taking and clever questioning, are yet again able to solve the mystery. They might be children, but as Conan Doyle commented, ‘height is not a measure of ability’.
