"A heart-warming, uplifting story about the importance of making everyone welcome"
The little boy who stars in this story lives in a world where everything has to be blue. Anything that isn’t blue is banned by law – we even see people painting trees and the grass blue. He has a secret though – he loves yellow.
He feels he can’t tell anyone, not even his dad, and hides his collection of yellow things in the cupboard. Keeping something so important secret is horrible, as children will understand, and one night it all bursts out in a glorious flurry of yellow. His dad’s reaction is lovely, leading to a happier life for his son, and a brighter one for everyone.
This is a heart-warming, inspiring celebration of the importance of difference, of the life-enhancing power of making everyone welcome, as well as the vital importance of being who you really are. The message is perfectly pitched for the very young and delivered in a story that quickly moves from sadness to real joy. The illustrations by Stef Murphy are delightful too, both the blue and the rainbow worlds.
