"A wintery adventure with a warm message about fairness"
Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter are best friends, playing together all year and taking it in turns to wear the weather crown.
Now it’s Winter’s turn to lead the fun but her friends have decided they don’t want to play her games – they’re too cold – and have decided to hand the crown straight to Spring instead.
Little children will identify with Winter as she stomps away and feel her frustration and sadness at her friends’ behaviour. Fortunately, Spring, Summer, Autumn realise that it’s just not as much fun without Winter, and set out to find her.
All ends happily with the four whooshing down a snowy hill on a sledge. Lindley’s wintery scenes are very appealing and this is an enjoyable way to talk to young readers about empathy and taking turns.
