In the company of a young girl, this gorgeous picture book takes us through the seasons in showers of rain.
It starts in spring, the girl and her little brother splashing in puddles, planting pea and carrot seeds with her gran, then moves through storms into summer, when we all miss the rain. She welcomes it back in the autumn, ‘a pitter patter lullaby playing on the roof’, and the book closes with a snow shower.
The story is a wonderful evocation of all the different types of rain that fall, but also catches so much of a young child’s life, outdoor play, cosy times indoors, family fun, and noisy journeys to school.
The illustrations have a vibrancy to match the changing seasons and the different daily activities. The text is lyrical and vivid too and will be especially rich for children and adults to share.
