"Mr Rabbit’s unexpected harvest transforms his life."
Although absolutely nothing to do with Easter; featuring bunnies, carrots and growing things makes this the perfect book for Spring projects at home or at school! But it is actually a beautiful fable about friendship.
Whilst we cannot literally grow our friends like Mr Rabbbit unwittingly and then deliberately does, his advice about the need to prepare your ground and show love patience, care and warmth is absolutely spot on.
The multiple award-winning author illustrator has created Mr Rabbit’s world in luscious watercolours, with the most delicate inked lines adding the quirky characterisation that she does so well. We see him settling down to a long, dark and boring winter with ‘a book and a cup of tea’ but ‘sometimes even Mr Rabbit started to feel lonely’.
We see his excitement when it is finally time to plant the seeds of his favourite of all things – carrots. We follow his careful process 240 times but then he finds another, ‘ sorry I forgot you little friend’ and he tries to make up for that with extra loving attention. But he gets more than he bargained for when he pulls up a giant talking and walking carrot!
I love that Mr Rabbit uses ‘Oh, Carrots!’ as an increasingly panicky, but polite, expletive. The energy and disruption that carrot hilariously brings to Mr Rabbit’s life is just what he needs, and he is never bored and lonely again. A gentle and positive message wrapped up in a beautifully humorous story that will, I am sure, be a big hit with young readers.

From the award-winning creator of Flooded, Lost and I Love Books comes a humorous and heartfelt tale about how to grow a friend - the perfect purchase for young children as they navigate their first friendships.
