LoveReading4Kids Says
Not to mince words, but Princess Celeste is a bit of a brat. She insists on celebrating her birthday 100 times a year for example and is livid when her father organises one special celebration for her big brother.
An unfortunate incident with the birthday cake is the final straw for the king, who sends her off to reopen the Intergalactic Post Office, fallen into disuse now that people communicate via Wurms, a magical dimension that transfers written messages instantly (sound familiar?).
It’s a big task as there are years’ worth of undelivered mail to sort through, and only Podge, a boy the same age as Celeste to help, plus hordes of fluffy Stardust Bunnies, made from dust. As Celeste turns out to be a better postmistress than she ever expected and even to be a dab hand at using stardust magic, she comes up against snarky Herman von Wurman the Third, head of the Wurm Network. He seems to take the credo ‘knowledge is power’ to uncomfortable, possibly even criminal lengths.
It’s a story that sprays warmth and touches of magic over a space age adventure, as Celeste and Podge stand up for old fashioned personal communication in the face of cold (corrupt?) new technology. It’s cute and acute and the author’s cartoon style illustrations add to the fun.
