LoveReading4Kids Says
Anything which promotes using libraries is always going to be a good thing and this delightful and engaging rhyming story adds a very appealing fantastical twist to a library visit with Mum!
The Llama Library covers all sorts of topics that might be of interest - cookery, history, art, music and science, but instead of collecting a book, you take home a specialist llama who will tell you all about the topic. But as Mum warns, ‘Pick wisely’ because ‘I’ve heard that some llamas cause nothing but fuss.’
The lively rhyming text has lots of join in repetition that will make this a lovely read aloud. ‘Each llama unique from their head to their toes. But which do you think was the llama I chose? ‘ ‘Lovely Miss Joyce’, the librarian, always said ‘What an excellent choice!’ but unfortunately that was not how it worked out. Each llama caused absolute chaos and so had to be returned ‘back to the library, with barely a fuss’.
The very expressive illustrations have so much funny detail to pore over and an awful lot to talk about. But eventually our young heroine had to ask Miss Joyce’s advice, when she just could not decide which of these llamas to borrow.
The helpful suggestion Miss Joyce gave was a bit of a shock to poor Mum, ‘if you’re really that keen your card will allow you to borrow ….Sixteen!’ This gives an excellent opportunity to point out that you can often borrow 16 books from an actual library! But our undaunted heroine has spotted the Dino Library next door…. And here we go again! This is bound to be a sure fire hit that will get lots of re-reading requests!

About Holly Ryan
Holly Ryan grew up in a little Cornish fishing village where she spent most of her childhood exploring rock pools. She completed a degree in fashion but soon found out she was RUBBISH at sewing. After that she moved to London and did lots of boring things in swanky offices but slowly became uninspired by the rat-race so moved back home. She’s now back living by the sea in Devon with her partner, two crazy little boys and a blind cat, and when she’s not entertaining little people in her local pre-school, she spends her days doing what she loves the most…. writing for children. She is never without a notepad and loves to write funny rhyming texts that make children laugh out loud. She is also a huge advocate of reading for pleasure. Holly also likes, amongst other things, pickled eggs, rock pooling (still), mushroom hunting and sucking her thumb. She HATES coriander.
