13-year-old KAMARI BROWN is determined to be a big success, so that he can give his poor family everything they deserve, but his get rich schemes get him more trouble than money. This time, he’s made a record that he’s sure will be a massive hit. This gets mixed up with the record of TYRONE BIGGS, a famous rapper, when his neighbour AMY takes Tyrone’s record to her boss JUSTIN POTSWORTHY, of Andover Records.

He hails Kamari as the next big thing in music. Meanwhile, Kamari and his twin brother JADEN have a run in with JEMIMA ANDERSON the daughter of his mum LEONA’S boss at the company picnic. She’s a snob, who pokes fun at them for being poor.

She only came because her father promised her the biggest party ever if she did. Kamari is desperate to live in Parkview Heights where Jemima and all the rich people live, and win student of the year. Jemima, who goes to the local private school always wins.

Mr Potsworthy signs Kamari up for a recording contract, and he sets off on a publicity tour prior to release, with Amy as his chaperone. He finds out that Jemima’s only successful because she cheats. He thwarts her, and wins Student of the Year.

A rapper and Student of the Year, is like all his Christmas’ and birthdays together. When Jemima finds out Kamari is becoming famous, she invites him to her party. She says it’s only for him, because his brother is a nobody.

Kamari is faced with a dilemma about whether to go or not, as him and his brother always do everything together. He’s always wanted to mingle with the rich, and things go to his head. He says yes and goes, excluding Jaden.

This causes a fall out. Kamari and Amy find out about the record mix up, and tell Mr Potsworthy. He decides to steal the song and release it anyway, as Tyrone is going back to America and won’t find out until it is too late.

He persuades Kamari to go along with the lie by promising him fame and fortune. Kamari is sure his family will agree when they’re all rich. Mr Potsworthy fires Amy to keep the secret and organises a big release event.

Jaden finds out about Kamari’s lies, and Amy’s firing; they have a massive fight which virtually ends their relationship. That night, Kamari re-evaluates his actions, and decides to put things right. He makes up with Jaden and Amy, and they decide to get Tyrone Biggs to the release event before he leaves, and tell the truth.

They find Tyrone and must race to the release event before it’s too late, and tell everything to Mr Potsworthy’s boss Mr PRENDERGAST. Mr Potsworthy tries to deny things, but is fired. Although Kamari ends up losing his rap career, he’s gained his brother back, and a few lessons along the way.
