Rex Rocket is a disgraced space soldier who has recently been kicked out of S.T.A.R.R. Command by the forever-grumpy General Dill (who is a talking pickle, of course).
Now Rex has command of his own crew of misfit space-explorers, General Dill sends a team after him to prove that Rex is completely incompetent in the hopes he’ll have his crew taken away from him.
As Rex flies his spaceship, which is in the shape of a giant hot dog in a bun, he fights giant housefly drones, giant Platypus robots, explores space caverns and much more. All through this, he’s trying desperately to escape the clutches of General Dill and be left alone to travel space in peace.
With wonderfully bright colours and super-fast action sequences, Rex Rocket is a really fun read for ages 6+. It’s a great comic that demands to be read aloud using the most silly voices imaginable. Each chapter tells its own little mini-story but there is a complete story arc throughout which allows young readers to make connections between the characters when they pop into the action.
I truly loved the characters, it is ridiculously fun to read the villains’ dialogue and Rex’s crew are adorable as they get more and more annoyed with Rex’s antics. With comics like Bunny vs. Monkey rocketing to stardom, it’s nice to see alternatives like Rex Rocket come along to quell the voracious appetite of young readers. These are comics that should be read and re-read for maximum effect, truly hilarious!
