"Give young readers a taste of this spookily enjoyable and inventive new vampire series asap!"
October 2026 Debut of the Month
Dotty Sutton’s debut is an original mix of the gruesome and the comic, her own own black and white illustrations bring life to her wonderfully outlandish characters and scenes.
The hero is half-vampire Moth, centuries old but still aged ten and now helping his vampire aunt run his old house as a hotel. Bitten by a decidedly un-cool rockstar vampire with only one fang, Moth has the gift of immortality but not flight. He didn’t get the super strength either though he did duck the allergy to sunlight. He’s also a strict vegetarian.
His jobs in the hotel include managing not just the human guests and the vampires living in the basement but other residents including giant frog Princess Bubblicious and Gary, an enormous man-eating Venus Flytrap. It’s exhausting – and lonely – but Moth mostly manages until the arrival of a busload of lost school children. Can Moth keep them from being bitten, especially with bully Vlad and his mates on the lookout, and can his new young human friend Mina help him out?
Dotty Sutton quickly establishes Moth’s world and he’s an immediately sympathetic character, holding our interest and affection throughout the mayhem going on around him. Each chapter reveals some new secret about the castle and ups the levels of excitement. This is a spookily enjoyable and inventive story with lots for readers to relish, particularly fans of Grimwood by Nadia Shireen, which has the same surreal, anything-goes tone combined with a lovable cast of characters who function as a family group.

The hilarious new illustrated series perfect for fans of Loki, Amelia Fang and Hotel Transylvania.

I loved Moth the Veggie Vampire! It was hilarious!
Moth is a half vampire who lives in a massive hotel, but its not a normal hotel, there are vampires, frogs in a pamper parlour, a giant plant that likes eating biscuits, and more!
The other young vampires are mean to him and keep trying to get to the children. Will Moth manage to protect them all?
Apart from Moth, who is a half vampire, my favourite character was Mina because she's got pink hair and is always fixing problems. Moth also has another friend, a bat called Biscuit who loves eating snacks!... Read Full Review
