A debut novel full of romance and charm. Many years in the future, Zee is the best healing empath in the hospital; she has an unusual ability to help patients of all kinds to get well through good feelings as well as conventional medicine. And, she’s never fallen in love, or been ‘pierced’ as her friends would say.
But then Zee meets David and her life is turned upside down. He’s an alien but Zee has been brought up to fight prejudice; she is happy to overcome barriers for her love. But David is not a free agent...Can Zee ever be with David? And can she cope with the extraordinary powers she has and the huge responsibilities they bring?
It is love against the odds...There is his world, and there is hers.
How can they feel so connected?
It's 2218 and Zee McAdams is in her second year as a healing empath at a busy London hospital. When a mysterious young man arrives for treatment, Zee's hard won calm is pierced. She will need all her courage if she's to follow her heart. Especially when David reveals a devastating secret.
'Completely original – the central love story is wonderful and I was amazed and surprised by the ending. It’s sci-fi with a difference and its premise is terrifying... a book for curious minds.' Wendy Cooling, reviewer
‘A teenage dystopian novel with a difference – a plot powered by romance that gives a frightening glimpse into the future. It’s smart, inventive and manages to surprise and entertain with equal measure.' Damian Kelleher, reviewer
'A story that will make you laugh, gasp, hold your breath and cry – all in the space of one chapter. Fast-paced and utterly believable, the story of Zee and David is much more than an adventure; it is a tender and challenging exploration of the steadfastness of human love, the untapped depths of human abilities and the realisation that for all of us, this moment is the only one of which any of us can ever be certain . . . a fresh look at a future world and leaves the reader toe-tappingly impatient for the sequel.' About Susan Waggoner
Susan Waggoner was born in Iowa, grew up in Minneapolis, and now lives and writes in New York City. She wanted to be a writer even before she could read and is the author of eighteen novels and seven non-fiction books (all under pen names).
About Neptune’s Tears (Piccadilly Press) she says, “I wanted to write a vision of the future, something exciting and romantic. Zee’s career as an empath was something I’d been thinking about for a long time, so that was my way into the story. But, as so often happens, when I began to write it was Zee and David who showed me how the story really went, filling in parts I’d missed.
It is strange for an American author to find a British publisher first, but that is what I did.”
What would you risk for the one you love? It is love against the odds...There is his world, and there is hers. How can they feel so connected?
