As the adage goes, “Money makes the world go around” and this is the perfect book to explain why that is. With inviting, colourful illustrations, this is the first book in the new Little Experts series, and is an accessible guide to money for children.

From bartering to the introduction of silver weights 5000 years ago by the by the Royal Palace of Mesopotamia, firstly we are introduced to the history of money. Full of interesting facts there is plenty here to fascinate adults as well as children! Did you know that Isaac Newton introduced the ridges on coins? You’ll have to read the book to find out why.

We then move on to the place of money in the modern world; with explanations of the difference between credit and debit, how interest rates work and why taxation is an important contribution to a fair society. Finally, the important topic of personal finance, in particular budgeting. Interesting challenges are included throughout, these encourage young reader to put the financial theory into practice.

This fairly short non-fiction book touches on a lot of subjects, offering enough information and consideration to introduce each concept, without it ever feeling overwhelming.
