You may be aware that Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and rather than a card or a bunch of flowers why not buy this little hardback which, full of Eric Carle’s luminous, kaleidoscopic images, will fill the day with an explosion of colour and brighten up the world every time it is opened. A succession of Carle illustrations of animal mums and their babies – kangaroos, giraffes and, particularly splendid, elephants – are accompanied by short lines of text celebrating all that mums do for us but it’s the pictures, full of life and energy, that hold our attention (as for the Very Hungry Caterpillar, he’s hiding on each page, waiting for little ones to spot him).  ~ Andrea Reece
