Twelve-year-old Drew is ready to enter the Maze and face its challenges to find its secret, the Avenir, an experimental device that unlocks the future. Only children are allowed to undertake the search and Drew’s main aim is to find his sister, Evie, who has already entered the Maze.

With a companion, Meg, he quickly discovers the Maze is even more dangerous than they expected with booby traps, trip wires and more, a defence system that attacks those that dare to enter physically and mentally. As they solve puzzles, decode clues and dodge weapons, we gradually realise that everything we thought we knew about the Maze is wrong, and that for Drew, unlocking its secrets is vital.

Christoper Edge has built up an eager readership for his page-turning, character-led, sci-fi adventure stories and this will more than meet their expectations. Readers should also look out for Where the Dragon Waits by Tom Moorhouse, which, though very different in setting, has similar conundrums at its heart.
