The new Pick a Story series applies the much-loved choose-your-own-adventure format ingeniously to picture books. The adventure starts on the first page where our protagonist Davy is taking the best picture he’s ever drawn to school – until, suddenly, it’s gone! Can you the reader find the drawing? Has a superhero stolen it? A dragon? Or mermaids? Pick a culprit, turn to the relevant page and follow the story as it unfolds, your decisions sending you back and forth through the book, a different story arc on each reading.
This format creates a great sense of fun, supported by the lively nature of the different scenarios, but a tangible sense of independence for children too. Additional questions are posed on the pages, inviting readers to share their thoughts and there are also mini puzzles and challenges scattered throughout. It all makes for a thoroughly rewarding reading experience and it’s a great way too to introduce children to decision making and indeed storytelling.
