"Meet the irrepressible Maya Bright in this very special new series."
April 2025 Debut of the Month
Maya Bright, lively, popular, pretty well unstoppable, is on her way to school, messing about with her friends, when something happens that changes her life for ever. She steps into the road at the wrong moment and is hit by a van.
We catch up with her one year later as she returns to school for the first time since the accident and as a below-the-leg amputee: her right leg is now her ‘little leg’. Maya is determined to live her life exactly as she wants and that means ticking off all the things on her Life Goals list. This includes wear skirts again, learn how to roller skate, have the best party ever.
She’ll need all her stubbornness – she prefers spirit – and courage, and readers have access to all her thoughts, experiences and feelings as she navigates her new world.
Maya’s story is moving, funny, gripping, and readers will race through it. Fast as it is, there’s space for nuance, subtlety and proper insight into Maya’s new reality. As Jacqueline Wilson says on the cover, this is a very special book.
When Maya finds a list she made before losing her leg, she decides she's still going to do everything on it - even though her former bestie has ditched her for the cool kids.
