AK is one of the best runners in his school and a shining athletics career beckons... until his dad's job uproots the family from Kenya to cold, wet London. Now AK has no friends, no coach, nowhere to run, and a school bully to handle. But when the bully's father, a washed-up runner, takes an interest in AK's training, it might make all the difference to AK.
Can he patch together a new life in England - and can he start to win again? Nominated for the Portsmouth Children's Book Award, 2015, Running on a Patchwork of Earth is a compelling modern story of immigration, culture clash and the power of sport. Funny, exciting or a little bit spooky, Black Cats are fast-paced stories with short chapters and illustrations throughout - stepping stones to reading confidence.
