Readers who like spooky, atmospheric stories of the supernatural will lap up The Darkdeep. Everyone in the area knows there’s something sinister about Still Cove, and local legend has it that there’s a monster lurking in its permanently fog-covered waters. Nico plunges into the mystery – literally – while trying to retrieve a lost drone, and what he and his friends find there is stranger than they ever imagined, and as dangerous as the stories say.
It seems the water has the power to bring imagined monsters to life, but what starts out as fun quickly becomes threatening. The claustrophobic sense of small town life adds to the tension, especially as each of the main characters has their own problems to deal with, and this well-constructed, fast-paced thriller will absorb readers. More episodes will follow.
