The Cloudlanders live on an island that is literally in the clouds – floating there high above the Endless Sea where the malevolent Wavemaker lurks, ready to drag them to a watery doom should the magical lightstone that holds them up fail. When the feared Tidekin is freed from an old enchantment, their future looks bleak, unless a band of assorted heroes can save the day.
The would-be champions include a giant mushroom, a golden faerie, wood nymph twins and (my favourite) a gruff, shape-shifting wolf. There’s also a magical Augur who lives in a gingerbread house. Their efforts to overcome the Tidekin take them in all sorts of directions and into all sorts of danger. Full of surprises, this is a very inventive and original fantasy adventure.

Then one day best friends Kurt (an eight-foot mushroom with a fear of heights) and Flicker (a tiny, tough-talking gemstone faerie) stand on the edge of the land and see the impossible: a plane from nowhere is heading straight for them. Kurt and Flicker join forces with a brave gang of misfits - including wood-nymph twins (one bounty hunter, one bookworm) and a gruff, shapeshifting wolf - to rescue the pilot and face a dangerous enemy.
