August 2023 Book of the Month

Young fans will be delighted to see the next mystery adventure served up in bitesize reader – friendly chapters and interspersed with engaging visual puzzles to solve.

This time Max and his friend Chaffy wake up to a hive of activity on Adventure Island. All their friends are planning a secret birthday party for Chief Constable Moose. Bradley was making lanterns, Orlando was making a sign to fly behind his plane and grumpy cat Foghorn was supposed to be finding a present. Crumble had made a delicious strawberry cupcake and that is where the trouble began. Not only did Crumble let Max and Chaffy into the secret, but all the noise attracted Chief Constable Moose, who was accused of ruining the surprise and sent away.

Then they discovered the cake was missing, but our duo was soon hot on the trail following clues and with puzzles for the reader to solve. With lots of red herrings and dead ends, Max and Chaffy were beginning to think they had failed, when they found another chaffy and this one had a familiar looking hat and was hot on the trail!

The denouement was a big surprise, but everybody learned that plans are not more important than people and that being greedy can lead to a sore tummy. The gentle messages in this perfectly pitched series are very effective for a young audience and they will love to see another chaffy find their perfect home. Teachers and parents will also love the design a chaffy activity sheets and draw along videos on www.findchaffy.com

This book is ideal for 6 and 7 year olds. I loved the pictures because they have loads of details and bright colours. It’s a very funny comic book that’s great for boys and girls.

I really enjoyed Max and Chaffy: Cupcake Mystery. This book is ideal for 6 and 7 year olds and even though I’m in Year 3, I still enjoyed the story and activities. I loved this book because you had to find Chaffy and if you don’t know who Chaffy is, he is a little snowball with ears and he’s very funny. At the end of every chapter, you need to find Chaffy who will be hidden in a fun picture and it gets harder and harder as you move onto every chapter.

This fun story is about a little girl and her partner, Chaffy, exploring animal island to help Chief Constable Moose find his cupcake for his surprise birthday party. My favourite characters were the main character, called Max, and the pig called Orlando.... Read Full Review

My boy absolutely loves this book. He is only 5 and the book might be too big for him but he enjoys together with me looking at the pages. I read it with him and we look at the pictures. The book itself is so beautiful, the cover and the pages. We both like the story and we think that it is quite interesting and exciting to go through it.... Read Full Review
