The dog in the title is a soft toy in a red collar and belongs to the Boring Machine, used by Sunil and his inventor neighbour to go time travelling. The toy is lost and if they can’t find it in time, the machine will explode at which point there’ll be a massive time-quake and everyone in a ten-mile radius will die of boredom. The stakes are high therefore!
As Sunil and Alex zip through time to all the places the Boring Machine has visited recently looking for the little dog, they meet artists, including Leonardo da Vinci, Daswanth, Hokusai and Tracey Emin. Sunil picks up useful tips for his homework (he’s creating a self-portrait) and we all learn lots about art and the artists he meets.
This series cleverly combines humour, adventure and information and is thoroughly entertaining reading.
