Famous fables from yesteryear have been rewritten and transformed into witty and lyrical verse that make them a pleasure to read aloud to young children and indeed for older children to read alone.
Imaginations will run riot as the book unfolds and the whimsical charm of the illustrations will capture hearts everywhere.
Suitable for reading aloud to young children, this illustrated title presents a retelling of La Fontaine's most famous fables. It talks about the ant and the grasshopper, the hare and the tortoise, the town mouse and the country mouse, and many other familiar characters.
Ranjit Bolt is one of Britain’s leading theatre translators. He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford, where he read Classics and graduated with double first-class honours. He worked as a merchant banker for eight years before his version of Corneille’s Le Menteur was performed at the Old Vic in 1989 (director, Jonathan Miller) to huge critical acclaim. A second Old Vic production followed almost immediately and he gave up his job to concentrate on translation. Thus began a collaboration with Sir Peter Hall which has resulted, to date, in five productions of major European classics. He has also worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and numerous theatres in North America, Australia and New Zealand. In 2003, he received the OBE for his services to literature. Ranjit was the lyricist for this season’s musical production of The Merry Wives of Windsor, being staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-on-Avon.
