Original, hugely enjoyable, and with an irresistible central character, there’s lots in this picture book to look at and talk about. On the first page we spot a tiger, snoozing in the lush jungle. He’s big and stripy, and fierce looking. But what if everything we’ve been told about tigers is wrong? According to this one, there’s more to tigers than sharp teeth. Across gorgeously illustrated scenes he describes his nightly activities, which range from preparing a delicious fruit salad for a baby elephant, to enjoying a dance with the tapirs. It’s all delightfully fantastical – a scene in which he styles the orangutans’ hair is particularly memorable. Readers are left to decide whether the tiger is being entirely truthful (personally I have my doubts). ~ Andrea Reece

Tiger says he is a cat with simple pleasures. He likes to spend his days wandering about, chatting with friends and having a little snack. And despite the gossip concerning his ferocious appetite, he's a modest creature. It's only at night that his surprising - and heart-warming - hobbies come to light. The Secret Life of a Tiger is a wonderfully funny and irreverent picture book that reminds us that sometimes animals (and people) behave in unexpected ways.
