"Another funny, true, moving insight into life at Bigg School."
Pretty Cleo, selfie-expert and self-styled most popular girl in her year is the narrator of this the fifth book in Lisa Williamson’s superb school-set series.
We’ve not felt particularly warm to Cleo in previous books – she ‘stole’ Lola’s best friend Evie in book one while her self-confidence can come across as arrogance and sometimes leads her to treat other people without much consideration for their feelings.
Seeing things through her eyes gives us a very different picture, especially when things go so wrong she decides she’s cursed!
There’s more to being happy than having perfect hair and all the latest gadgets, but surely none of us would have expected that it’s Astrid, who doesn’t even own a hairbrush, who helps Cleo realise this and shows her how to make things better.
Lisa Williamson’s understanding of teen and tween lives – their concerns, hopes and contradictions – is second to none and she writes about it beautifully too. These stories are always funny, true, moving, but this might be my favourite yet.

Welcome to Bigg School, where the extraordinary lives of ordinary kids take centre-stage - like Cleo, whose obsession with popularity and perfection is about to collide with the new reality of having to wear... braces!
Obsessed with being the prettiest and most popular girl at school, getting braces is the WORST thing that could happen to Cleo. And not only that, but Cleo is convinced that the braces are cursed.
