Gracehopper Synopsis

Born in the middle of Taiwan's 1999 Jiji earthquake, 18-year-old Grace's whole life has been impacted by its fallout. Now, as she faces an internal quake that's potentially even more devastating, her ex-best friend Charlie suddenly reappears. Can all her questions finally be answered? Or is everything she thought she knew about to implode? It is a story about love and loss, friendship, countering differences, the search for a unique identity and the many faces of resilience.

Grace has struggled all her life with her place in this family and in the world. Obviously of Asian descent, she has been unable to get the truth about her parentage from her mother, a woman who is struggling with her own demons.

Grace has often had to be the adult in this dysfunctional relationship, and now she is faced with the fact that the only rock in her uncertain world, her grandmother, may be fading into a senility of sorts. She is let down all around and faced with the burden of her mother on her own, and Grace is teetering on the edge. Her only relief is her conversations with Bruce Lee and her lessons in his special karate style.
