Robert R. Ingpen - Illustrator

Robert Ingpen, born in 1936, is one of Australia’s most successful illustrators and has designed, illustrated and written over 100 books. He was born in Geelong, Australia, and still works not far away in his studio in Barwon Heads. He studied illustration art and book design at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 1958, Robert was appointed by the CSIRO as an artist to interpret and communicate the results of scientific research. From 1968, Robert worked as a freelance designer, illustrator and author. In 1986 he was awarded the Hans Christian Anderson Medal for his contribution to children’s literature and he has been honoured with Membership of the Order of Australia. Ingpen’s works include illustrated editions of Peter Pan and Wendy, Treasure Island, The Jungle Book, The Wind in the Willows, A Christmas Carol, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Secret Garden, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Around the World in Eighty Days.
