Peanut Jones and the Illustrated City

Lovely book, full of beautiful illustrations, but has got a lot of punctuation mistakes!

I spotted this eye-catching book on the library shelf. Well, my brother spotted it, actually, but that doesn't matter.

Peanut Jones is a 12 year old girl who loves to draw! However, she always gets in trouble for it. Her life isn't going well either. Her dad's disappeared, her family isn't what it used to be, and she's stuck in the most boring school ever. But when she discovers a magical pencil, that will change her life forever.

I loved Peanut from the start. She's on the front cover as well. Rockwell, her 'Study Buddy', seems to be more into exams, tests, and is nice, but less brave and an egghead. I also loved Little Bit, Peanut's little sister! She is definitely clever for a 5 year old. There are also several other characters, including bad guys from deadly robots who are super stealthy, to cute little kawaii animals who are actually evil!

The storyline is in fact awesome! There are five parts in the story, each more interesting than the last. It was an exciting read. Oh and a really good read, too, seeing as I finished it in less than a day.

There are illustrations on almost every page and they were thoroughly enjoyable to look at. Plus if you look carefully at the back cover of the book, you'll find some spying 'fish', a crocodile's tail and three birds flying through the trees...

I was annoyed when the story ended with a cliffhanger- though that tells me there'll be a next book! Can't wait for it! :)
