Fledgling

Prepare for an exciting journey with this supernatural book! Cassie is about to find out there is more to her stuffed owl collection than she first thought... but that is only one of the surprises in store!

If you are the sort who wonders what, if anything, exists beyond what we can sense, then this book is for you! The story is set in a isolated house on a rock. Cassie, the main character is entrusted to look after the family’s collection of stuffed owls. When mysterious birds called the Sturmfalken attack her, and the stuffed owls rotate 180°, without her or anyone touching them, Cassie can tell something is afoot. She just doesn’t know what it is and she doesn’t have long to find out... Does it have something to do with the cherub that arrived through her window? The story becomes more exciting as you read it. Without giving anything away, there are lots of surprises as to which characters Cassie can trust. My favourite character was Frau Fischer who lives in the woods with her old goat and is very funny! I hope there is a sequel as there are still mysteries left unsolved. I’d recommend this book for ages 8+.

Fledgling beautifully follows the story of Cassie Engel as she undercovers facts that will change her and the people around her lives forever.

When all of a sudden a cherub flies into Cassie Engel’s bedroom window in the middle of a stormy night she has no choice but to let her in. But then strange things start to happen in the house that Cassie lives in with her mother, her father, her ill grandmother, Emaline the ancient servant and twenty or so stuffed owls. The owls begin to turn 180 degrees every time Cassie leaves the room and mysterious birds known as Sturmfalken attempt to break into her house, what will Cassie do to stop them? Could her grandfather’s extraordinary inventions help Cassie to find the answer to all that has been going on?

This book is full of hope and magic which draws you in and awakens your imagination by letting you imagine the different features of this fantasy adventure in your own way. Hope has presented this book brilliantly in the eye of the reader and the reviewer. Overall I think this book would be perfect for anyone between 8-14 with a love of fantasy, mystery and magic.

I liked this book but I think that Lucy could possibly have put in an Epilogue or something detailing their lives after the books climax and end.
