"A thrilling and original fantasy adventure"
September 2022 Debut of the Month
Ember, her family and neighbours live in the shadow of Mount Never, a captivating, mysterious place that controls their destiny, literally, for it’s from a building balanced on the top of the mountain that the Fate Cards arrive, telling the recipients how many years they have to live.
The idea sent goosebumps down my spine and will undoubtedly have the same effect on young readers. Uniquely, Ember’s card is blank but her sister’s decrees she will die before her next birthday, aged only seven. A born fixer and creator, Ember is determined to change that and sets off to the peak of Mount Never to challenge whoever sent the card.
Filled with magic, a genuine sense of the mysteriousness of things and some unforgettable images, this is a thrilling and original fantasy adventure. Proper, full page black and white illustrations by Raquel Ochoa make it even more enjoyable.
In a land trapped by fate, only courage can re-write the future. In the magical village of Everspring, everyone receives a fate card before their twelfth birthday, sent down from the mysterious Mount Never. It tells them their purpose, their profession and how old they'll be when they die.
