Irrepressible little Luna is always busy and in this new adventure she is looking forward, somewhat apprehensively, to her school’s sports day.

‘I’m not good at sport,’ she says to her mum, who reassures her, ‘Just have a little fun and give everything a go.’ So Luna and her friend Abiola do just that. They try football, basketball, swimming, baseball, the hurdles and finally a running race around the whole school grounds.

They learn that there are some things one of them is good at, some that the other is good at, and that it doesn’t matter if you win or lose. In fact, even though they cross the line last in the school grounds run, wet, muddy and out of breath, they still feel super.

Typically of Luna’s adventures, this is a lovely story that will reassure the littlest book fans and encourage them to try different things, while also giving them a vivid look into their own worlds in all their newness. Joseph Coelho utilises his poet’s phrasing and timing while Fiona Lumbers’ illustrations capture emotions and atmosphere, and everything that will make the scenes so recognisable to the audience. These simple stories are really very special.
