A nail-biting adventure for two siblings as they try to get back to England as the second world war comes to France. It’s May 1940 and siblings Tom and Alice travel with their mother to France to visit their father where he’s stationed with the B.E.F. Assured that they wouldn’t be allowed to travel if there was any danger, they reach where their father is stationed but the worst news arrives.
War has come to France and now Tom and Alice are sent to Paris to relatives. But their journey is far from moth and when their train is bombed and their world is turned upside down they must find a new way to get home. Though the people and journey are fictional, this story is a good introduction to the key dates for early in WWII.
Tom and Alice face a great deal of peril on their long journey with the risk of capture and worse looming. Thankfully the siblings encounter a cast of characters there to help, from local school teachers, farmers, a convent of nuns and a downed RAF Pilot also trying to get home. Their adventures across France lead to more than a few close calls that make for gripping reading.
