"A Hallowe’en treat with the adorable tiny dogs."
Rose Lihou’s stories of little girl Bea and her secret friends, the four tiny dogs who live in her garden, are as sweet and warming as a hot chocolate on an autumn day and this story is full of all the fun of Hallowe’en with a useful life lesson included for good measure.
Bea is excited it’s Hallowe’en and especially about the neighbourhood pumpkin carving contest. Determined to win, she gets carried away and her pumpkin collapses under the weight of decorations and carvings.
The tiny dogs are there to cheer her up though and point out there’s one little pumpkin from Grandpa’s garden that she can carve just for fun. Then it’s off for trick or treating – after Bea has explained to her tiny friends what it is.
The story is a lovely way to enjoy the treats of the season, and what young person wouldn’t love to have the tiny dogs as their special friends. Bea’s pumpkin carving experience also teaches her, and readers, that good things happen when you stop worrying about winning and have fun instead.
One to recommend to fans of Paula Harrison’s Kitty series or Arden Jones’ new Witchy Boo books.
