Pizza and Taco: Rock Out! is a gut-bustingly funny graphic novel which is perfect for fans of Bunny vs. Monkey, InvestiGators and Cat Kid Comic Club.

In Rock Out! Pizza and Taco decide to try and form their own garage band. I loved the play on words with the different band names, which is of course a very important part of the band- forming process. Names like Jam Jett and the Food Fighters will have adults giggling along with younger readers.

I love how the duo puts a band together but realise that they haven’t written any songs. This is very much a “all the gear, no idea” situation but in truth, Pizza and Taco also don’t have all of the gear to even start a band which is even funnier.

The story zips along at a lightning-fast pace which is a really great element for younger readers. These are the kinds of books that will keep kids reading, they are funny, short and easy to digest. They are also fun to read along to and are begging for adults to do different, silly voices for all of the characters. The writing is sharp, infectious and fun. These are two buddies trying to have fun and jam together in a band.

Pizza and Taco are great together, they are truly adorable characters that I’d have second thoughts about eating and that goes for their friends, Hot Dog and Hamburger. The fact that they look exactly like a slice of pizza and a taco is also funny to me as a reader. I love how the text is large and sparse on each page, it’s very inviting and fun to flip through.

I strongly recommend this and all of the Pizza and Taco graphic novels for your shelves if you have young readers in your home, they are really fun and unforgettable.
