A pacy, compelling thriller with a strong plot and believable characters inspired by the child characters mentioned only briefly in the original Sherlock Holmes stories. Really evocative of the streets of Victorian London, this is a series that is likely to run and run. Philip Pullman called it a ‘rattling good yarn’.
