Little Boo is a ghost, as are her brothers and mum. While they like nothing more than being scary, Boo doesn’t feel the same at all. Her favourite things are her cat Wibbs and making friends. After some upsets, including accidentally turning herself hairy, Boo realises she is very happy being a witch, particularly as it means she and Wibbs can talk to one another. She’s worried about telling her mum, but of course her mum loves her and is delighted that she’s happy.
With a jolly cast of characters and very appealing star, this series fizzes with magic and the joy that comes from finding friends and acceptance. It’s perfect for fans of Isadora Moon.

I loved Witchy Boo Casts Her First Spell. The book was so spooky and amazing and shows you can do anything. I want to become a witch!

Boo is supposed to be a scary because she's a ghost but she learns that ghosts can be anything, not just scary! That's when she gets her new name, Witchy Boo, when she starts learning to be a witch.
She doesn't listen to her teacher, Witch Hazel, and tries to do a spell by herself. I didn't like that it went wrong and she ended up getting super hairy when she made a mistake!

Boo is a little ghost that simply doesn't like to scare, it is a story about being different and finding where you fit in. Another good bridge between picture and chapter books.
I’m not normally a fan of ghost books for children, and at first this had a rather Casper the Ghost feel to it. There are two mean, scary brother ghosts and a shy, timid little ghost who doesn’t like to scare. Initially, I thought it was going to follow a similar storyline, but actually, there is a deeper meaning to the story and a nice one to unpick with younger children.
Boo doesn’t like to scare and doesn’t really fit in, but she learns that it’s OK to be different. At Scare School, she discovers that she can be herself and be good at something, even if it isn’t what everyone else expects of her.
