A Lovereading4kids 'Great Read' you may have missed 2011 selection.
Let’s hear it for the book! A great joke lies at the heart of this story about the battle between old and new technologies. Jackass cannot get his head round what his friend Monkey is doing. The object that is so absorbing him has no screen and no mouse; it can’t text and it can’t tweet. And yet….Once Jackass has had a turn he doesn’t want to give it back. Lane Smith’s simple and bold illustrations carry the point perfectly.
A wry exchange between an IT-savvy donkey, a book-loving ape and a mouse forms this playful and light-hearted look at the role of books in our digital age. With a subversive and signature Lane Smith twist, this satisfying and perfectly executed picture book has something to say to children and adults alike about the importance and joy of reading.
