In a nutshell: pigeontastic comedy capers with Dave and Skipper | Things are not looking good for pigeons Dave and Skipper. The Human Lady who feeds them has gone on holiday leaving them easy prey to the devious Reginald Grimster, a man with an irrational hatred of pigeons dating back to his schooldays (a pigeon pooed on him). Soon Skipper is a prisoner, along with lots of other pigeons, as Grimster gets ready to turn them into nuggets. Narrated by Dave, with frequent interjections by Skipper, this is totally nutty, totally original and a hoot from start to finish. Swapna Haddow has devised an original new character in Dave Pigeon, who’s not the cleverest at working out plans, and the dialogue between Dave and Skipper is very funny. Sheena Dempsey’s illustrations are perfect for bringing the story alive and the layout including lots of use of speech bubbles makes this a really enjoyable read for children just moving into chapter books. Swapna Haddow was the winner of the Greenhouse Funny prize 2014. She is the author of the Dave Pigeon books, including How to Deal with Bad Cats and Keep (Most of) your Feathers and a further one, coming in 2017.
