New from the creator of The Girl with the Parrot on her Head, this is another witty, eye-catching picture book that adults will enjoy as much as children. Once there was Natalie – a bright image shows a happy, beaming monster swinging on the arms of two parent monsters. And then there was Alphonse too: Natalie’s look says it all, and on the opposite page a gurning blue baby monster gazes out from a buggy.
Mostly they have fun together but when Alphonse eats Natalie’s favourite book, she loses her temper and retreats into the bath. Hirst’s bold, bright screenprint illustrations are wonderfully expressive – there’s a fabulous picture of Natalie in her bath towel looking simultaneously guilty, repentant and worried –and this is a very funny and perceptive depiction of early sibling relationships. ~ Andrea Reece
From the remarkable new talent behind The Girl With the Parrot on Her Head comes a story about two monster siblings, Natalie and Alphonse. Natalie mostly loves her little brother Alphonse being there - they name the pigeons, bounce things off the bunk beds, have stories in the chair and make lots of fun stuff together. But, when Natalie catches Alphonse eating her most favourite book, well ...that is not OK!
