It’s hard to think of a more perfect bedtime book than Goodnight World. The sun is going down and the world is getting ready to go to sleep. ‘Goodnight’ says the text to trucks and cars and planes, to shadows in the park, to teddies and books, to sparrows, starlings, rooks. The soft, gentle rhyme is an effective lullaby and each page is a glowing scene of different but warm and cosy domesticity and peace.
The final page shows a small child tucked up next to mummy, who is clearly expecting a baby. It’s left to the reader to decide who is the narrator, ‘curled around her heart’. ~ Andrea Reece
